Pedagogical projects
In addition to his work as a performer, Cristo is a dedicated and successful teacher. Moreover, over the last decade, his research devoted to new pedagogical approaches to interpretation has become an important part of his professional practice. Cristo's doctoral research on interpretation – developed at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2014-2017 – serves as the theoretical backbone of this approach. In turn, the reflection elicited by the exploration of new ways of teaching has made Cristo a deeper and more compelling interpreter.
Together with Dr Víctor Durà-Vilà, a philosopher at the University of Leeds, Cristo has developed an ambitious pedagogical approach for students of any instrument and singers. At the heart of this project is a commitment to innovative pedagogy, where theory and practice inform each other to promote mature, original and reflective musicians. Ultimately, the aim is to encourage students develop a more exciting approach to interpretation based on artistic responsibility and integrity.
Cristo’s methodology has been successfully implemented at his home institution, Centro Superior Katarina Gurska in Madrid, and in masterclasses at leading European conservatories. His classes and, in particular, his research-led teaching consistently elicit a high level of student satisfaction and achieve very strong pedagogical results.
